Bi - Bismuth

A heavy metal, bismuth has been known since Claude Geoffroy distinguished it from lead in 1753. The pictured piece of bismuth may be observed with the emission spectrometer in CHM 154. Bismuth compounds may be used as an analytical reagents in qualitative analysis. Observe the melted crystals in the picture.
