AVOCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

We Wingers (that's Carrie, our daughter Breanna and our son Ben and, er, me), are a reasonably eclectic and eccentric bunch, happy as clams up here in the ever-so isolated, bleak North Pennines. Hey, it might be cold, but we've got good heating, unlike that of poor Sam McGee. But that doesn't mean we can't expand our commercial horizons. But, hey, profit motive aside (and I'm really talking simple financial survival, after all) we are all still green by natural inclination. Of course, redundancy is never far from our minds. To begin with, it was with fear of unemployment that I started a PostGraduate Certificate in Education course with the Open University, in secondary school science. But since I can carry this course on in addition to full-time research employment, it looks to be challenging in its own right. There is, of course, a burgeoning interest world-wide in www educational resources.

Music is a universal avocation, isn't it, so on a different note [!!], Carrie and I can often be found down our local pub enjoying a friendly, fatalistic folk song session. It's truly amazing how many music sites there are now on the Internet.

To say nothing of all those ezines, and even trad newspapers, which I have conveniently filed in my news section.

On me evenings off, sometimes I can be found playing quoits, round and about the public houses in the region. Hmmm, I've attempted to immortalise our latest, greatest victory, in a wee song.

It's great fun surfing over to other people's home pages. But maybe the most fun is surfing into radical www sites. Though just for fun, you might like to consider this odd, eclectic mixture of sites that seemed to have wandered into my avocations file willy-nilly. Or then again, you might not, eh?

Well, if you've read this far, you really owe me a response, doncha? I'm always very fascinated in the interface between reality and the Internet. And anyway, it's always a pleasure to meet new enthusiasms; though I'd probably draw the line at trainspotters anonymous; I'd like to hear from you -- don't forget to tell me your http address!
