Corporate Partners
Corporate partners are the highest level of philanthropic support. In addition to all
the benefits of Corporate Sponsors, Partners receive the following:
Partner with ASM and Participate in ASM Outreach/Communications Projects
Corporate Partners will have special opportunities to participate with ASM in public
education and communications projects. These projects will further the goal of educating
the public about microbiology and related sciences, as well as familiarizing the public
with the Corporate Partner and ASM. The ASM will invite its Corporate Partners to suggest
new, joint educational initiatives as well as support implementation of ASM
communication and outreach programs as sponsors. Examples of such projects include the
tremendously successful Operation Clean Hands, a national program about proper handwashing
cosponsored with Bayer Pharmaceuticals, and Intimate Strangers, the public television
series supported by the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy.
Provide News Items to ASM News
A new section will be established in ASM News, the monthly newsmagazine of ASM,
to publish items supplied by Corporate Partners about their activities, in particular
those related to microbiology and related sciences. Product specific material will not be
accepted. Items will be reviewed before acceptance and publication.
Receive a Newsletter Prior to ASM Meetings
Prior to the General Meeting and to ICAAC, each Corporate Partner will receive a
newsletter highlighting special events and symposia of interest.
Select Speakers for Visits to Corporate Research Facilities
Corporate Partners are offered the opportunity to review the Foundation Lectures
Program, which annually generates a list of distinguished speakers and topics for ASM
Branches. Corporate Partners may select speakers who may be of interest to their
scientists and researchers. Additionally, members of the ASM leadership may be available
to accept invitations. Corporate partners are asked to defray the cost of the visit.
20% Discount - Mail List Rental and Job Placement Services
Corporate Partners receive a 20% discount off all ASM membership mailing list rentals
and job placement employment clearinghouse services at the General Meeting and ICAAC.
Special Acknowledgment of Corporate Partners
To acknowledge how vital the support of Corporate Partners is to the Student Scientist
Programs, each new Corporate Partner is honored with a plaque to commemorate its first
year of support. The plaque is presented during the Officers Reception at the ASM General
Meeting.
Student Scientist Programs
Designed to further science by providing support for educational programs. Funded or
assisted by Corporate Sponsors and Partners, these programs are collectively called The
Student Scientist Programs and include:
Student Travel Grants
Each year, 250 students or post-doctoral fellows receive a $500 grant to offset their
travel expenses to either the ASM General Meeting or ICAAC. Grant Recipients are given a
unique opportunity to present their abstracts in a professional, scientific setting.
Travel Grant Recipients are recognized at the Student Orientation and Reception at the ASM
General Meeting. Travel Grants are administered by the Meetings Department.
Undergraduate Research Fellowships
These fellowships encourage undergraduate students to pursue careers in the
microbiological sciences by providing the opportunity for students to conduct a research
project with assistance from an ASM faculty member and present the results at the ASM
General Meeting. This program is supported in part by Corporate Sponsors and Partners, and
is administered by the Board of Education and Training.
