    ASM Branches

Branches bring members together to present and learn about recent research results, to discuss key scientific and political issues that affect microbiologists, and to attend informative and educational seminars, symposia, and workshops about current advances in the field. Branches participate in the Foundation for Microbiology lectures program. Overall, Branches provide a forum for formal and informal interaction among members and an avenue that leads toward excellence in educational and professional development.

ASM's thirty-six Branches are organized by geographical territories that are defined by one or more states and/or zip code areas. Branches are individually chartered, elect their own officers, set their own dues, and determine their own membership criteria. Membership in the National ASM is not required to join a Branch, but National membership is encouraged. Nonmembers of the National ASM have restricted voting privileges in the Branch.
