In the spring of 1992, the Texas legislature mandated that TCADA conduct studies to identify adults and adolescents in the state who are or who are at risk of becoming problem or compulsive gamblers. The first studies were conducted in the few months before the Texas Lottery began, while the latest study examines patterns of gambling behavior several years after the state lottery has been in existence.
