About the Authors

The Authors

Linda Lindsey and Tod Schimelpfenig

Tod Schimelpfenig is the risk management director at NOLS. An EMT for 22 years, he has gained extensive experience in search and rescue and ambulance work. In 1990, he was named Wyoming EMT Instructor of the Year. Tod has been a NOLS Instructor for 22 years and has been associated with the school for 24. He teaches NOLS' Wilderness EMT and Wilderness First Responder courses and serves as a critical stress debriefer. He has been compiling the school's injury and illness statistics since 1984 and was a co-author of the first definitive paper on the epidemiology of wilderness injuries and illness.

Linda Lindsey, RN, BSN, EMT, is NOLS Staffing Manager and senior staff instructor. Formerly the safety and training coordinator, she was responsible for NOLS' extensive staff training program. She is an instructor for the school's Wilderness EMT and Wilderness First Responder courses. She is the former coordinator of the Colorado Outward Bound first aid program and has five year's experience as a staff nurse in obstetrics and neonatal intensive care.
