What is the Object??

Sonar readings taken at differnt times over the smae general area are called profiles. Profiles reveil such ocean floor features as plains, deep trenches, plateaus, hilltops and mountain ranges.

Procedure

  1. Construct an xyplot showing Ocean Depth vs. Distance Traveled.
  2. Construct an ocean floor profile by connecting the points.
  3. Describe the profile.

Questions

  1. Would it have been possible for scientists to have found the Titanic without sonar equipment? Explain.
  2. A ship sends out a sonar signal. Between the tme the siganl left and when it retured, 2.6 seconds elapsed. If sound waves travel about 4,700 feet per second through water, what is the ocean depth?
